The hills of life

It was a beautiful Saturday morning and I went for my usual run at the park near our home. This park is absolutely beautiful with a river and a waterfall. It also has several trails that are at various difficulty level. I usually take the hardest one to challenge myself. Some how as awful as I feel running it, there is a wonderful feeling of satisfaction at the end from accomplishing such a seemingly challenging path. During the up hills I would really struggle and every time I got to a down hill I thought wow, that was worth it. It feels wonderful running down the hill with the momentum taking over and the breeze hitting my face. Some times I wished it was all downhill. What a run that would be. But without some kind of up hill, there would be no down hill at all. At this time it hit me that the hills of life are the same way. We are always looking for an easy way. A smooth cruising. We want our dreams to become reality now or we get discouraged. We stop halfway on that up hill and turn around with our heads down and defeated. Thinking I can never do this. It's way too hard. It's not for me. It's impossible. Most importantly we get inpatient. What we forget is that we have to go through the up hills to get to the smooth down hill. Only then the momentum will take over and we will see success and results beyond what we imagined. All it takes is commitment and persistence. How do we gain that kind of focus and commitment? By having a burning desire for our dreams. So figure out what it is you truly desire. Start your path and keep going all the while having the dream live in your mind and in your heart until you achieve it. Remember, you may have little down hills (successes) on the way up. Enjoy those moments and let them fire you up. However your path may be up hill the entire time. That's ok too. Keep at it and your reward maybe bigger than you thought.
